Yesterday, my wife bought me a gift, the DVD of
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, a movie we first saw at the cinema in 2001, in a time where people needed such a feel-good movie. Back then, we quickly categorized it as one of the best movies ever. But some time after, we concluded that part of its success and appreciation was the fact that it arrived at the perfect moment. We thought watching it a second time would spoil the memories.
Well... not a single bit. This is an awesome movie, mixing many genres, surrounded by an aura of emotions and feelings, drawing many smiles and tears. And
Audrey Tautou is superb, touching, beautiful.
In Quebec, a mostly French province, the movie had a great success, accompanied with even better critics than in France. But I always wondered if it reached the heart of English Canadians or Americans. Did you see the movie?
