Is my ADSL modem dying?

Since a few days ago, my SpeedTouch ADSL modem is making a strident and irritating noise. It's so annoying I have to shut it off at night. So I'm now shopping for a new one. My provider is offering me a Gnet BB0060, but I had problems with that model in the past, and 100$ is expensive for such an old model. I'll probably end up buying a D-Link DSL-300T.

But my SpeedTouch is still working like a charm. I've already asked my provider if we could make an exchange, thus reducing the price of the Gnet modem. I'm still waiting for an answer. Another possibility for me is to sell my modem on eBay, but would someone be interested in a buzzing modem? Is that sound an indication of its upcoming death?

Though I only have experience with two D-LINK products, I won't be touching their stuff anymore. Both products I have used just aren't reliable. They work most of the time, but have intermittent problems. The quality is so-so, I'm not impressed. (The products tried: A router and an internet cam).
