slimCODE, aka Martin Plante

slimKEYS 1.0.5 is now available

If you already are using slimKEYS, you should get an update notification from slimKEYS itself within a week. You can always download the new version and install it if you can't wait. By the way, I have changed the default update check to "once a day", so next updates will get to you faster.

This new version contains a new plug-in, and a greatly improved plug-in. The new kid on the plug (cough) is slimLAUNCH.Delicious, which extends slimLAUNCH to allow browsing and opening your del.icio.us posts and tags. The almost new plug-in is slimSEARCH, which does not limit your list of preferred search targets to 3 entries anymore. All entries are now accessible, using two techniques. First, you can type your search query as usual, then press the appropriate shortcut, like Alt-G for Google, Alt-Y for Yahoo, Alt-W for Wikipedia, etc. As before, Enter, Alt-Enter and Control-Enter will target the first three entries, no changes there. Second, you can type a search prefix in the search prompt, then press Enter. For example, you can search for "Guy Lafleur" on Google by typing "g Guy Lafleur", then Enter. Prefixes are parsed only when launching the search with Enter. You now have the best of both worlds. I'm not a prefix fan, as I prefer the shortcut way, but I can see others already used to this from other applications, like Desktop Sidebar. By the way, the search list can be reordered (to change the first three entries), you can change all default prefixes and shortcuts, and you can add more URLs to the list.

One of the entries already in the list is different from the others. Instead of the "Search the Web" description, it displays "Launch application or web address". Underneath, slimSEARCH was completely revamped and opened to allow new plug-ins to add new types of search processors to slimSEARCH. I'm still using the "search" word, but it's not limited to searching. You could implement yourself a calculator that processes arithmetic operations, and accept the "=" prefix. I'll be working on a new sample for the slimKEYS SDK real soon. To get back to this different entry, what it does is try to execute what you have typed as is, and if it fails try again with the "http://" prefix. This way, if you type "notepad" and Alt-S, it will open Notepad, since it's in the PATH. If you type "slimcode.com" and Alt-S, it will open this web site. You can also use the "!" prefix, as in "!notepad", then press Enter.

New version, new site colors

I've changed the site's colors a little, going for a darker tone, which is more like me. I've always worked with bright text over a dark background. Changing my stuff was easy, but changing Community Server's styles was painful. If you see glitches (there must be for sure), please tell me!
