I finally managed to release version 1.1.0 of slimKEYS. The main new features to remember are the added customization of slimLAUNCH items, new percent and negative values you can use with slimSIZE areas, and revamped slimSEARCH entry management (more under the hood).
First, all three slimLAUNCH extensions (FileSystem, Delicious and Passwords) let you change how each remembered item is named, thus changing how you find those items. For example, you may want to keep a file's extension in the name, so you can browse by extension, or use some special char, like a pipe (|) between a del.icio.us tag name and title, so you can type something like "g|dtd" to match your Desktop Tower Defense entry under "Game".
Second (it's about time!), you can express slimSIZE destinations in percentage. This is very useful for those working with multi-monitor setups with different resolutions. How could you configure a hotkey to move a window to half the screen on the next monitor before? You had to use a fixed number of pixels, or use different hotkeys for different target monitors. slimSIZE also support negative width or height, which means "use the full monitor width or height, minus that absolute value".
Finally, slimSEARCH's search entry management has been improved under the hood, and a new search entry type called "Web Address Filter" is added by default. It will detect what looks like web addresses instead of keywords, and launch them in your browser. You could do this before, but had to make sure to press "Alt-S" to start that string as a process instead of a query.
Oh, and what about the new look?
Yes, another big change with slimKEYS is the look. It's now using borderless windows with gradients, and optional transparency (I run it in the Zunish theme with 90% opacity). I love it... when I'm not testing it on an old XP box (my son's computer). I realized only a few days ago that the rendering, mostly when moving dialog boxes around, was poor on slow machines. I almost decided to cancel everything and come back to the plain look, but finally chose to go forth and see the feedback. It's been only a few hours since I uploaded this new version, and I'm already doubting. If required, I could easily had a "Use standard Windows borders" option. We'll see.
What's missing?
Now, I have to work on the SDK. It's not in sink with this latest version. I have to complete a "HelloSlimSearch" sample, and add the Fogbugz sample.
