dimensioning window to top (or down) half of the screen

    Hello there.

I'm an absolute fan of slimKEYS features. Great prog! Congratulations to the author. Since I installed it, I use it constantly but ...
I wonder why the hell there isn't a command like ctrl+win+8 to set a window's size to the top half of the screen (and ctrl+win+2 for bottom half).
This is an unused shortcut amongst the existing ones and it would be very useful like when you're working on two documents in word for example.
Any chances to have it in an upcoming version ?

    Thanks

    Thanks for the great comments.

Though it may not be obvious at first, you can edit, add or remove every hotkey assigned to slimKEYS actions by default. Let's create together those two hotkeys you're looking for.

    • Press Win-K: This will open the slimKEYS main window.
    • Select any hotkey under the "slimSIZE - Move the active window to custom positions" section.
    • Press the "Insert" key or the first button in the toolbar (with the plus sign). You now see a configuration similar to this one.
    • Check "Ctrl" and "Win" at the right of "Modifiers".
    • Select "NumPad8" in the drop-down at the right of "Key".
      • For the above two actions, you might as well have moved the focus in the "Or press hotkey here", and press Ctrl-Win-8.
    • Leave "Target window" to "ActiveWindow".
    • Change "Units" to "Percent (%)". This is much simpler than using pixels for this example, and works better when you have two monitors with different resolutions.
    • Check "Change position" and set to "Top-Center".
    • Leave both "X Offset" and "Y Offset" to 0.
    • Check "Change monitor" and set to "Move to next monitor". I rarely target specific monitors with my hotkeys. I like them to cycle through monitors.
    • Check "Change width" and set it to 100 (or 0, which means full size when in pixels).
    • Check "Change height" and set it to 50.
    • Check "Change state" and set it to "Normal", else maximized windows will remain in their maximized state.
    • The rest can be unchecked. It should now look like this.

Voilà! You can press the "OK" button. You now have a Ctrl-Win-8 hotkey that moves the active window to the upper half or the next monitor. Creating a similar Ctrl-Win-2 hotkey uses the same values, except for "Change position" which should be set to "Bottom-Center". While editing your hotkey, a translucent blue window shows you what would be the resulting position if applied to the configuration window itself.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey, thanks a lot !
It does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Well, no offense but as I must admit that the program has great functionalities, the configuration aspects of it are quite nebulous ... but very good support of yours !
I think most users would be very glad to have some configuration help somewhere (in the app or on your website) even if they are just very rough guidelines. I mean, I never saw that panel "edit hotkey" ... if I had I would have figured on my own how to set it like I wanted ... but I didn't know how to access it. Well ... anyway. Thank you !
